Celebrations begin this year to mark the 50th Anniversary of the Chevrolet Corvette. There's no one more qualified than Dave McLellan to reflect upon the remarkable endurance of this legendary American icon. Dave McLellan belongs to a select group by having been the second of only three Corvette Chief Engineers to date. He is also the very first Corvette Chief Engineer to sit down and write his view of the incredible story of America's foremost sports car.In Corvette from the Inside Dave McLellan talks about his years at the center of Corvette Engineering, his take on Corvette history and many of the details that have made the Corvette a perennial favorite with millions of Americans. As McLellan describes the incredible highs and lows in the life of the Corvette, he also paints the bigger picture of the American auto industry's ability to rebuild itself whenever its survival is threatened.McLellan uses every tool at his disposal to tell his story, including original sketches and charts drawn by him exclusively for this book, scores of archival photos from GM, photos from his personal collection, and of course his own first-hand memories of 32 years at General Motors. Whether you're interested in the Corvette from an engineering perspective or simply a fan of the celebrated sports car, you'll want to own a copy of Dave McLellan's Corvette from the Inside.

The legacy of the Corvette is matched only by its beauty, captured here like never before. Art of the Corvette profiles two dozen Corvettes from all seven generations, beginning with the first 1953 Blue Flame Six Corvette and concluding with the return of an icon, the stunning 2014 Corvette Stingray. Using a unique style of portraiture known as light-painting, acclaimed photographers Randy Leffingwell and Tom Loeser present the most recognizable, unique, and historic Corvettes ever produced. The book recounts day by day how the FBI investigators somehow centered the entire extortion plot around Nelson and another innocent man whose only mistake was to spend fifteen minutes chatting by the lake, and then to stop at a fast food restaurant for a hamburger. Nelson fit the profile that the FBI had in mind - a long pony tail, a cellular phone, and a red Corvette which he liked to drive fast. From this harmless set of facts grew an inconsistent FBI surveillance log, incredibly biased misstatements of the truth, and wholly contrived witness statements, all elaborately tailored to inplicate Nelson. Other evidence of Nelson's innocence and the unreliability of the existing evidence was simply ignored, including an FBI wiretap conversation between the real extortionist and his accomplice discussing the extortion plot in detail. The real extortionist admitted that he had no idea who the FBI had arrested. Nevertheless, Nelson was indeed arrested with his photo plastered all over the Phoenix newspapers. Nelson's life would never be the same.

As the 1950s dawned, General Motors focused its industrial might on producing revolutionary rather than evolutionary cars with the ultimate goal to become the clear market leader in the automotive industry. To accomplish this goal, the company designed, developed, and consistently released innovative automotive technology. During the decade, Chevrolet introduced the small-block V-8, automatic transmission, air-conditioning, power steering, and many other innovations that made the cars faster, more comfortable, and safer. All of the pieces had fallen into place. General Motors had astute leadership, a brilliant engineering team, forward-thinking stylists, a massive manufacturing infrastructure, and the capability to produce cutting-edge technology. With unbridled optimism and exuberance to meet the demands of the booming U.S. economy of the 1950s, the company designed, developed, and delivered an unprecedented number of breakthrough technologies, and established the blueprint for the modern automobile. Automotive historian and veteran author David Temple goes behind the scenes to reveal how these technologies were designed, manufactured, and installed on Chevrolet’s fine portfolio of cars: the Corvette, 1955-1957 Bel Air, Nomad, Impala, and many more. Inside General Motors, many dedicated and talented leaders who were determined to make Chevrolet cars the best on the market. Vice President of Styling Harley Earl and his team designed the 1952 Corvette concept car for the Motorama show. After receiving numerous accolades, it was rushed into production. Design chief Bill Mitchell used his design acumen and creative vision as he led his team to style the 1955-1957 Bel-Air. Zora Arkus-Duntov worked tirelessly and transformed the Corvette from a touring car into a genuine sports car. Ed Cole and his engineers overcame many challenges to develop the compact, efficient, and powerful Chevy small-block V-8, which continued in production for decades. Chevrolets of the 1950s retraces the design, development, and production of these cars, but it also covers innovative vital components that were installed in them. If you have been looking for the inside story on GM’s arguably greatest decade, the models, and the technology it produced, you have found it.
