An epic fantasy of war and adventure! The leader of the Elves in the south is troubled by an onslaught of Possessors against their homeland. In his investigations, he is met by a band of Dwarves and two human boys who bear the most terrible news. The kingdom of men has been invaded. As far as anyone knows, these two refugees are the only remnants of the human race in the world. The boys had first consulted the Dwarves, and now they ask for the aid of the Elves to recapture their homeland. Before the leader can make his decision, his world is turned on its head. The survival of the two human refugees, Henty and Clese, is paramount, since they could very well be the last of their kind. Can the boys succeed in their mission? Will the Elves and Dwarves agree to their request? Will they all be strong enough to resist not only the enemy but the dark tendencies inside them, both of which seek to destroy them? War is not only something external; blood does not only bleed on the outside. The true war is within the characters themselves. The Elves, Dwarves, and men are not enemy to ugly orcs or goblins; they fight the Possessors. These Possessors are Elves and Dwarves and men, only they have chosen to abandon their old ways and join a cause that opposes the survival of their former kindred. They are so called because they possess the sign of evil that was branded upon them by their master, the Shadowlord. It takes great courage to survive the growing night, and morality has no place in the grand shift of the world. "A Humble Heart" is a term applied to Delenas Farlong, the leader of the Elves, who throughout the tale faces tremendous adversity and who shows great valor and humility as he leads his people on their dangerous journey.

Our Lord said, "Learn of me, because I am meek, and humble of heart." (Matt 11:29) This classic study in humility describes the nature of that virtue typical of all Saints - the one virtue that underlies every other virtue and without which none of us will enter Heaven. It says, "Impregnate yourself with humility, and you will soon find that all other virtues will follow without any effort on your part." A treasure filled with insights!

What is your vision for the church? Is it the vision Jesus has for his church? "Above all else," we are told, "guard your heart" (Pr. 4:23). We live out of our hearts - what we keep in our hearts is what we do with our lives. "Come and See," is a book about things that are of paramount importance, and guarding our hearts is "above all else." If we wish to restore New Testament Christianity to the 21st century, we must first restore the "heart" of the gospel, which is to "Love your neighbor as yourself" (Gal. 5:14). May God's grace be with your spirit! Come and See! All truth is equally true, but it's not all equally important. Some things are more important than others. (Matt. 23:23) Some things are more important than others, but only one thing is the most important. (Matt. 22:37-40; 1 Cor. 13:1-3) In Jesus Christ, "the only thing that counts is faith expressing itself in love." (Galatians 5:6) If we claim to be Christians we've got to love as Christ loved us. (John 13:34, 15:12; 1 John 2:6).

Introduction 4 It imports us to love God above all Things 8 That the Love of God is our greatest Duty 9 That the Love of God is our greatest Good 19 Love of God the chief Grace of the Holy Ghost 30 We must prepare our Hearts for this Grace 39 It imports us to remember the Day of Judgment 48 Our last Day the End of all our Happiness 50 Last Day the Beginning of endless Misery 58 Despair in a Sinner unreasonable 69 That God can help us if he will 72 That God will help us if we please 80 How apt we are to defer Repentance 92 How dangerous it is to defer Repentance 94 Reason why Delay is so dangerous 98 That we ought to begin immediately 104 Sorrow for our Sins 113 Resolutions of Amendment 115 The Necessity and Advantages of Humility 120 First Degree of Humility 126 Second Degree of Humility 129 An Objection answered 137 Third Degree of Humility 142 Why the Saints are most humble 146 Second Reason 153 The enormity of Sin 160 The ingratitude Pride, Presumption &c 166 Our Saviour's Idea of Sin, &c. 170 The Saint's Idea of Sin, &c. 179 The Character of a good Christian. 189 His Contempt of the World 194 His Desire of Heavens 199 I treat of the best of hearts, a contrite and humble one. A heart which is the price of heaven. An inestimable jewel to purchase which we must sell all we possess. What detriment it may have suffered in my hand it according to my own fancy. I pretend not to excuse. Though the jewel be unpolished, it is entire and its interior value is still the same. True contrition and humility affect the exterior embellishments, plain sincerity becomes them best. A humble penitent who has an angry God to appease must think of something else. When Magdalene comes with penitential tears to bathe her Saviour's feet, she forgets her looking glass, regardless of its approbation. She brings precious ointments with her, but these are only for her Lord, not to adorn herself or please the company. The method I have followed may seem arbitray and require some explanation. I begin with the love of God. 1. Because it is the chief and only duty of man. 2. Because although the practice of repentance commonly begins with fear, proceeds with hope, and only ends in love. Yet, where are practice ends, our theory begins, and what is last performed, is generally first designed, and principally aimed at. Because there is no ground for either hope or fear, before we know our duty. When we know it, and consider well how little we observe it then we begin to tremble at the thought of our appearance at the bar. The terror of a living God awakens us, and makes us sensible, how fearful a thing it is to fall into His hands. For this reason in the second place, I show the general motives of fear, which to prevent despair, I counter balance with the motives of hope and lastly, because presumption is the greater danger of the two, our pride inclining us to think repentance easy, and our self-love daily tempting to defer it, I have endeavoured to show the danger of delay. These preparations I thought proper for a contrite and humble heart.

One need not fear that the constant handling of one book will dry up the mind, if the topic treated be one of primary importance, and if it be the work of a master on the spiritual life. The number of thoughts and truths suggested by such a book are truly wonderful. It often will happen that far more is suggested than is actually put down by the hand of the writer. But to enjoy this result, you must have put away all hurry; you must have said, “I am going to spend at least a year with this friend; I am going to take him not merely for a friend but for a master and a guide.” I well remember how one night before bed–time, reading my da Bergamo in the Chapel of St. Bede’s College, a single line suggested this idea or train of thought: God in the Old and New Testament named people after their personal characteristics. In his classic book, The Five Dysfunctions of a Team, Patrick Lencioni laid out a groundbreaking approach for tackling the perilous group behaviors that destroy teamwork. Here he turns his focus to the individual, revealing the three indispensable virtues of an ideal team player. In The Ideal Team Player, Lencioni tells the story of Jeff Shanley, a leader desperate to save his uncle’s company by restoring its cultural commitment to teamwork. Jeff must crack the code on the virtues that real team players possess, and then build a culture of hiring and development around those virtues. Beyond the fable, Lencioni presents a practical framework and actionable tools for identifying, hiring, and developing ideal team players. Whether you’re a leader trying to create a culture around teamwork, a staffing professional looking to hire real team players, or a team player wanting to improve yourself, this book will prove to be as useful as it is compelling.
