Marxism is a theory which originated in the context of nineteenth-century industrialised Europe. Despite its European origins, Marxism has actually found greatest significance as a doctrine for change in the context of the underdeveloped peasant societies of Asia. This paradox has only been resolved through adaptation of Marxism to suit the specific features of particular Asian societies. There has consequently been a differentiation of Marxism along national lines. In this book, first published in 1985, the theoretical and practical implications for this national differentiation of a ‘universal’ (European) theory are explored, followed by a more detailed analysis of the manner in which Marxism has developed during different historical periods in particular Asian contexts.

Li Da (18901966) was one of Chinas most important Marxist intellectuals and a founding member of the Chinese Communist Party, yet he has been little studied in the West. In this seminal work, Knight analyzes Li Das contribution to the dissemination of Marxist philosophy and theory in China and explores his philosophical relationship with Mao Zedong. Through the lens of Lis life and thought, this book provides a detailed assessment of the introduction and dissemination of Marxist philosophy and social theory in China. Li Da (18901966) was one of Chinas most important Marxist intellectuals and a founding member of the Chinese Communist Party. He played a major role in the introduction of Marxist philosophy and theory to China and in its dissemination among Chinese revolutionaries. His works are now regarded in China as classics of Marxist philosophy, and he is numbered among the ten most influential Chinese intellectuals of this century. Yet, almost nothing has been written about Li Da in English. In this seminal study, Knight analyzes Li Das contribution to the flowering of Marxist philosophy and theory in China, examining Lis writings and placing them in the context of the Marxist tradition. Knight also explores Li Das philosophical relationship with Mao Zedong, who was heavily influenced by Lis works. Through the lens of Lis life and thought, this book provides a detailed assessment of the introduction and dissemination of Marxist philosophy and social theory in China.

'Nick Knight's close reading of the debate on increased globalisation within China provides an essential analysis for anyone seeking to identify the dynamics of change in that country. In the process he not only highlights the extent to which the idea of globalisation is fashionable yet contested for China, as elsewhere, but also the paradoxes of a Communist Party State embracing a neoliberal agenda and world system.' - David S.G. "HIS STORY" is a thorough evaluation of religion, from a true Christian perspective. It begins with the basic Bible stories, and ends with exposing the secrets behind witchcraft. Since all of us have fallen asleep on the couch, at one point in time, reading the Scriptures, he has written the entirety of this book in poetic format, with the intention of making it more enjoyable, and easier, to read. Nick has also attempted to add humor, where appropriate, without disrespecting or disrupting the Lord Jesus or His Word. Nick resides in the quiet, reclusive Blue Ridge Mountains, with his lovely girlfriend, Andrea, and their adorable daughter, Harley. They have a timber wolf hybrid, as their loyal family pet. Though this is his first book, Nick hopes this initial accomplishment will serve as a launching pad for a reputable literary career.

In these fascinating and revealing interviews, influential figures from every aspect of the world of fashion share their stories, insights, and experiences. Journalist Jan Kedves isn't afraid to ask a pointed question, and his subjects certainly aren't afraid to answer. Whether it's Bruce Weber discussing nudity, dogs, and Clint Eastwood; Juergen Teller talking about daring shoots with Charlotte Rampling, Victoria Beckham, and the one time he may have gone too far; or Raf Simons waxing nostalgic about his days and nights as a club kid, this collection of interviews goes beyond the latest trends to distill what makes its subjects tick. A fashion-world insider in his own right, Kedves knows how to talk to models, designers, photographers, and artists, sharing his own opinions and recollections as a way of drawing out even the most reticent. As a result, his conversations with the likes of Pierre Cardin, Malcolm McLaren, Rick Owens, Helmut Lang, and Veruschka can feel as intimate as a late-night gabfest, and every bit as fun. Other interviewees include the following: Miguel Adrover, Walter Van Beirendonck, Bless, Damir Doma, Michel Gaubert, Jean-Paul Goude, Iris van Herpen, Nick Knight, Charlie Le Mindu, Willi Ninja, Diane Pernet, Loc Prigent, Viviane Sassen, Valerie Steele, Barbara Vinken, Bernhard Willhelm, Zaldy.

Marxist Philosophy in China : From Qu Qiubai to Mao Zedong, 1923-1945

This book recounts the history of Marxist philosophy in China between 1923 and 1945 through the writings and activities of four philosophers: Qu Qiubai, Ai Siqi, Li Da and Mao Zedong. Two of these philosophers – Qu and Mao – were also political activists and leaders, but their contribution to this history is as important, if not more so, than the contribution of Ai and Li who were predominantly philosophers and scholars. The inclusion of Qu and Mao underlines the intimate connection between philosophy and politics in the revolutionary movement in China. It is not possible to speak credibly of Marxist philosophy in China without considering the political context within which its introduction, elaboration and dissemination proceeded. Indeed, each of the philosophers considered in this book repudiated the notion that the study of philosophy was a scholastic intellectual exercise devoid of political significance. Each of these philosophers regarded himself as a revolutionary, and considered philosophy to be useful precisely because it could facilitate a comprehension of the world and so accelerate efforts to change it. By the same token, each of these philosophers took philosophy seriously; each bent his mind to the daunting task of mastering the arcane and labyrinthian philosophical system of dialectical materialism. Philosophy might well be political, they believed, but this was no excuse for philosophical dilettantism.
