This book is primarily meant to aid those taking the ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) exam and is best used in conjunction with The Certified Quality Engineer Handbook. Section 1 provides 380 practice questions organized by the seven parts of the 2015 Body of Knowledge (BOK). Section 2 gives the reader 205 additional practice questions from each of the seven parts, in a randomized order. For every question in both sections, detailed solutions are provided that explain why each answer is the correct one and also which section of the BOK the question corresponds to so that any further study needed can be focused on specific sections. A secondary audience is those taking exams for ASQ certifications whose BOKs’ have some crossover with the CQE. Namely, the Certified Six Sigma Black Belt (CSSBB), Certified Six Sigma Green Belt (CSSGB), Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE), and Certified Quality Inspector (CQI). Using this guide in studying for any of these exams would be extremely useful, particularly for the statistics portions of the BOKs. Unlike other resources on the market, all these questions and solutions were developed specifically to address the 2015 CQE Body of Knowledge and help those studying for it, including taking into account the proper depth of knowledge and required levels of cognition. None of this material has appeared in any previous resource or been shoehorned into fitting under the BOK’s topics. NOTE: Practice/sample test questions such as those in this study guide cannot be taken into ASQ certification exam rooms.

The reliability engineer is a professional who understands the principles of performance evaluation and prediction to improve product/systems safety, reliability and maintainability. The structure of this book is based on that of the Body of Knowledge specified by ASQ for the Certified Reliability Engineer, which includes design review and control; prediction, estimation, and apportionment methodology; failure mode effects and analysis; the planning, operation and analysis of reliability testing and field failures, including mathematical modeling; understanding human factors in reliability; and the ability to develop and administer reliability information systems for failure analysis, design and performance improvement and reliability program management over the entire product life cycle. Study questions have been provided on an accompanying CD-ROM, listed by Parts (I–VII) of the Body of Knowledge. A simulated exam approximately half the size of the actual exam, with questions distributed (Parts I–VII) approximately proportional to the information contained in the Body of Knowledge, has also been provided.

Reducing the variation in process outputs is a key part of process improvement. For mass produced components and assemblies, reducing variation can simultaneously reduce overall cost, improve function and increase customer satisfaction with the product. the authors have structured this book around an algorithm for reducing process variation that they call Statistical Engineering. the algorithm is designed to solve chronic problems on existing high to medium volume manufacturing and assembly processes. the fundamental basis for the algorithm is the belief that we will discover cost effective changes to the process that will reduce variation if we increase our knowledge of how and why a process behaves as it does. a key way to increase process knowledge is to learn empirically, that is, to learn by observation and experimentation. The authors discuss in detail a framework for planning and analyzing empirical investigations, known by its acronym QPDAC (Question, Plan, Data, Analysis, Conclusion). They classify all effective ways to reduce variation into seven approaches. a unique aspect of the algorithm forces early consideration of the feasibility of each of the approaches. PRAISE FOR Statistical EngineeringThis is the most comprehensive treatment of variation reduction methods and insights Ieve ever seen. - Gary M. Hazard TellabsThroughout the text emphasis has been placed on teamwork, fixing the obvious before jumping to advanced studies, and cost of implementation. all this makes the manuscript attractive for real-life application of complex techniques. - Guru Chadha Comcast IP Services.

This handbook is a comprehensive reference source designed to help professionals address organizational issues from the application of the basic principles of management to the development of strategies needed to deal with the technological and societal concerns of the new millennium. The content of this fourth edition has been revised to reflect a more current global perspective and to match the updated Body of Knowledge (BoK) of ASQ’s Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE). In order to provide a broad perspective of quality management, this book has specifically been written to address: • Historical perspectives relating to the evolution of particular aspects of quality management, including recognized experts and their contributions • Key principles, concepts, and terminology relevant in providing quality leadership, and communicating quality needs and results • Benefits associated with the application of key concepts and quality management principles • Best practices describing recognized approaches for good quality management • Barriers to success, including common problems that the quality manager might experience when designing and implementing quality management, and insights as to why some quality initiatives fail • Guidance for preparation to take the CMQ/OE examination. Organized to follow the BoK exactly, throughout each section of this handbook the categorical BoK requirements associated with good quality management practices for that section are shown in a box preceding the pertinent text. These BoK requirements represent the range of content and the cognitive level to which multiple-choice questions can be presented. Although this handbook thoroughly prepares individuals for the ASQ CMQ/OE exam, the real value resides in post-exam usage as a day-to-day reference source for assessing quality applications and methodologies in daily processes. The content is written from the perspective of practitioners, and its relevance extends beyond traditional product quality applications.

This book — a result of 30 years of quality-related work experience — was written to aid quality technicians and engineers. It provides the quality professional working in virtually any industry a quick, convenient, and comprehensive guide to properly conducting measurement systems analysis (MSA). The intent of this book is to provide background and examples on the application of gage R&R methodology (test method validation) for variable and attribute data, help for those who work with devices that don’t fit the usual approach, and ideas for measurement devices that require innovation to assess their performance under off-line, static conditions. The ultimate objective is to determine how best to improve the control and performance of a process. The reader is assumed to be familiar with basic control charting methodology since assessment of statistical control of the measurement process is important. One may wonder why performing a gage R&R is so important; the simple answers are profit, public health, and safety. Companies that are shipping product that is out of specification can be subjected to expensive litigation, especially in the aviation, pharmaceutical, and medical device industries. This book will be a useful reference when preparing for and taking many of the ASQ quality certification examinations, including the Certified Quality Technician (CQT), Certified Calibration Technician (CCT), Certified Quality Inspector (CQI), Certified Six Sigma Green Belt (CSSGB), Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Six Sigma Black Belt (CSSBB), and Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE).

Rape and the Rise of the Author

Gendering Intention in Early Modern England

Contending that early modern fictional portrayals of sexual violence identify the position of the author with that of the chaste woman threatened with rape, Amy Greenstadt challenges the prevalent scholarly view that this period's concept of 'The Author' was inherently masculine. Instead, she argues, the analogy between rape and writing centrally informed ideas of literary intention that emerged during the English Renaissance. Analyzing works by Milton, Sidney, Shakespeare and Cavendish, Greenstadt shows how the figure of 'The Author' - and by extension ideas of the modern individual--derived from a paradigm of female virtue and vulnerability. This volume supplements the growing body of studies that address the relationship between early modern textual representation and notions of gender and sexuality; it also adds a new dimension in considering the wider origins of modern concepts of selfhood and individual rights.
