Vulvar disorders are prevalent but often overlooked conditions in the curricula of obstetrics and gynecology, dermatology, and primary care residency training programs. This has led many outpatient clinicians to feel unprepared to evaluate the patient with a vulvar complaint. Often patients with complex, chronic vulvar disorders have seen multiple providers in consultation before they are appropriately diagnosed and treated, leading to frustration amongst patients and providers alike as well as excessive health care costs. The goal of this issue is to present a practical review on vulvar disease for outpatient clinicians to improve patient care. The topics highlighted in this issue represent gaps in knowledge among residents, fellows, providers, and course and conference attendees. The issue begins with a general approach to the evaluation and management of vulvar disorders and then moves on to an article on vulvar pathology that will help clinicians obtain the most useful pathology reads from their biopsies. Also addressed are specific vulvar disorders or presenting findings that are common or challenging. A pelvic floor physical therapy colleague provides information on how this modality can help manage vulvar pain. The issue concludes with an article on hot topics in vulvar disease. In the last several years there has been a growing number of newly trained physicians committed to advancing patient care in the area of vulvar disease, and many of this issue’s authors are part of this group. This issue should serve as a useful resource in the office of any provider who evaluates patients with vulvar complaints.

An era of global population aging is upon us. By 2030, one in eight people will be over age 65. Since women generally live longer than men, the health and welfare of postmenopausal women will become a significant public health concern. This book offers a comprehensive review of the life changes associated with menopause, both at the dermatological and physiological level (e.g., hormonal, immunological) and at the subcellular level. It critically examines the dermatological, biological, and clinical challenges to postmenopausal health and well-being and the current and emerging therapeutic interventions. The authors advocate a holistic approach, emphasizing the need to view the menopause as a life transition with various facets rather than as a series of distinct medical conditions to be managed. Our goal is to offer a comprehensive resource to the researchers, clinicians, physicians, and helping professions whose mission is to promote the health and well-being of women around the world.

Mindfulness represents the most significant shift in the world of counselling and psychotherapy within the last decade. Mindful approaches have been hailed as the 'third wave' of cognitive behavioural-therapy and mindfulness has been recommended – and found to be effective at treating – a wide variety of mental health issues. There has been a proliferation of popular self-help books based on mindfulness approaches, and much debate between western mindfulness practitioners and Buddhist scholars about the ways in which mindful theory and practice is being adapted for western audiences. To date, however, there has been relatively little research or writing considering the potentials of mindfulness for the arena of sexual and relationship therapy. This book aims to address this by bringing together many of the key practitioners and researchers who are working in this area. The book presents a range of perspectives on what mindful theory and practice has to offer to our understandings of, and work with, sex and relationships. This book was originally published as a special issue of Sexual and Relationship Therapy.

It offers guidance for all those who are treating patients with vulval disease at trainee and specialist level, helping to improve management for the patient and prevent delays in diagnosis, including referrals to specialists. It contains key information about diagnosis, investigation and basic management, with a section on signs and symptoms guides the reader to the correct chapter for the treatment of that disease. The experienced authors include updated classification and terminology of vulval disease with an explanation of how this should be useful in clinical practice and guidance as to when the patient should be referred on to a specialist. As vulval diseases are different to those of the rest of the skin patients with vulval disease present a large unmet need, often with delays in diagnosis due to a lack of training from physicians.
