Central to both biblical narrative and rabbinic commentary, circumcision has remained a defining rite of Jewish identity, a symbol so powerful that challenges to it have always been considered taboo. Lawrence Hoffman seeks to find out why circumcision holds such an important place in the Jewish psyche. He traces the symbolism of circumcision through Jewish history, examining its evolution as a symbol of the covenant in the post-exilic period of the Bible and its subsequent meaning in the formative era of Mishnah and Talmud. In the rabbinic system, Hoffman argues, circumcision was neither a birth ritual nor the beginning of the human life cycle, but a rite of covenantal initiation into a male "life line." Although the evolution of the rite was shaped by rabbinic debates with early Christianity, the Rabbis shared with the church a view of blood as providing salvation. Hoffman examines the particular significance of circumcision blood, which, in addition to its salvific role, contrasted with menstrual blood to symbolize the gender dichotomy within the rabbinic system. His analysis of the Rabbis' views of circumcision and menstrual blood sheds light on the marginalization of women in rabbinic law. Differentiating official mores about gender from actual practice, Hoffman surveys women's spirituality within rabbinic society and examines the roles mothers played in their sons' circumcisions until the medieval period, when they were finally excluded.

The Blood Covenant

The author speaks empathetically to the church, even as he is a shepherd. This book explores the subject of faith from a profound reflection on how unchanging, unyielding, and unbreakable God's promises are for the believer.

Blood Covenant was written by Pastor Raji, journal style, and a body of work built up over many years of teaching, preaching, and mentoring. The author speaks empathetically to the church, even as he is a shepherd. This book explores the subject of faith from a profound reflection on how unchanging, unyielding, and unbreakable God's promises are for the believer. Many Christians often pursue needlessly after what God has already offered them because they don't understand how their covenant with God operates. This book tackles the subject fiercely and with lucid arguments. It's not an attempt to side-line the believer's journey. Instead, it is an affirmation of what bountiful blessings already apply to each one who believes. It's a book that sets out to liberate the Christian from the works of the flesh and an attempt to create salvation built on the needless pursuit of personal works. Relying on sound doctrinal exegesis, Blood Covenant takes the reader on a journey through the scripture. It explores the redemption journey and explains coherently how the Christian can and should benefit from the covenant with God. The book also attempts to show the reader how to access the blessings of covenants by faith. It's passionately written, open-hearted, convincing, comforting, and uplifting.

Sin in the House

The prologue. "The Inveigler" is a lucid poetic depiction of seduction. With a stepwise narrative approach, the battle for the human soul (the house) is captured. Chapter 1 commences with the event at Eden, how a covenant was (written in the blood of Abel) enacted between the woman and her seed and the ancient Serpent (Sin). The consequence of this covenant was to play out in both the immediate and subsequent generations. Saul visits a witch at Endor and eats there and ends up giving all the souls in his family in one day to the same inveigler. The creator had commenced work immediately when this imbroglio started and foremost set up a counter covenant of "circumcision of the flesh." Mankind was to continue to increase beyond the Serpent's diabolic decimation machinery. In Egypt, the latter attempted to beat this event of the eight day' by demanding the execution of every male newborn at the delivery stool. But then, the deed must work like covenants. He was outwitted; oppression bred multiplication! He continued with his potent weapon; Idolatry (illicit sex). The creator went to the next stage, the "circumcision of the Spirit" the ultimate covenant. This time around another virgin was convinced to bring forth the "tree of life." Mankind was given another opportunity to eat this "word that was made flesh" and live forever. Another covenant was written in the blood of Jesus, which began to "speak better things (blessings) than the blood of Abel." The remembrance of this covenant by the faithful in "The Lord's Supper" continues to be a torment in the heart of the ancient Serpent. The "Prince of this world" thus became the pauper; a fugitive and wanderer. The former fugitives (due to the scheme at Eden) now have rest in the New Covenant. The ultimate climax of this real life drama is the "exit of Sin from the house" he had occupied since he schemed his way into it at Eden. The book culminates in a thrilling narrative epilogue; "Manna" which portrays seduction at its best and what happens to a man when he allows "Sin in the House."
