Using some of these letters as a framework, Carey's nephew has compiled an informal biography of Edward Dent. Production pictures, costume designs and sets will be of particular interest to the theatre and opera historian, while the period flavour of the book in general will appeal to anyone with interest in or nostalgia for an era that ended with the fifties.

Despite an often unfair reputation as being less popular, less successful, or less refined than their bona-fide Broadway counterparts, Off Broadway musicals deserve their share of critical acclaim and study. A number of shows originally staged Off Broadway have gone on to their own successful Broadway runs, from the ever-popular A Chorus Line and Rent to more off-beat productions like Avenue Q and Little Shop of Horrors. And while it remains to be seen if other popular Off Broadway shows like Stomp, Blue Man Group, and Altar Boyz will make it to the larger Broadway theaters, their Off Broadway runs have been enormously successful in their own right. This book discusses more than 1,800 Off Broadway, Off Off Broadway, showcase, and workshop musical productions. It includes detailed descriptions of Off Broadway musicals that closed in previews or in rehearsal, selected musicals that opened in Brooklyn and in New Jersey, and American operas that opened in New York, along with general overviews of Off Broadway institutions such as the Light Opera of Manhattan. The typical entry includes the name of the host theater or theaters; the opening date and number of performances; the production's cast and creative team; a list of songs; a brief plot synopsis; and general comments and reviews from the New York critics. Besides the individual entries, the book also includes a preface, a bibliography, and 21 appendices including a discography, filmography, a list of published scripts, and lists of musicals categorized by topic and composer.

Middle-aged and over weight British playwright Joe Green hasn't been able to write since the premiere of his play about a woman faced with a lifetime in a wheelchair a play not unlike the author's Duet for One. A young American actress who is suffering the debilitating effects of the illness that plagues the character in Joe's play wishes to procure the rights to perform in it Off-Broadway. A trans Atlantic telephone romance develops which shatters when Sarah finally meets Joe and realizes he is not the man of her dreams, but a mass of unkindness and self loathing.-1 woman, 1 man

David Garrick’s accomplishments as an actor, manager, and theatrical innovator brought him great fame and fortune, and his ideas influenced not only his own age but succeeding ages as well. Yet as a playwright, a part of the elegant combination of talents that was David Garrick, he has never achieved the critical reputation he richly deserves, in main because of the unavailability of texts and the lack of proper assessment of the historic importance of his plays in the English theatre. This first complete edition makes available to scholars and students all the plays of Garrick in well edited texts, with commentary and notes. Contents: Alfred. A Masque (James Thomson and David Mallet), 1751; Every Man in His Humour. A Comedy (Ben Jonson), 1751; Zara. A Tragedy (Aaron Hill), 1754; The Chances. A Comedy (John Fletcher and George Villiers), 1754; and Rule a Wife and Have a Wife. A Comedy (Francis Beaumont and John Fletcher), 1756.

Duet is a collection of poems that ponders several themes of life, such as music, dreams, relationships, and many more. Rishika and Shail take you on a journey of their juxtaposed thoughts and emotions that create a wonderful contrast between their views of the world. Both contribute one poem to each theme, and despite having such intensely different outlooks, both seem to share a dynamic bond. Their divergent takes on the same topics are quite fascinating. These themes hope to provoke thought and reflect the diversity of perspective within our society today. Every theme illustrated by Alex Gili further helps enhance the moods and hues associated with each topic. Every set of two poems is supported by a short introduction that gives insight into how each poem came to be; these are written alternatively: one by Shail and another by Rishika, marked by an initial S or R.

A douze ans, Martin tombe inexplicablement malade.
