Of all the things people do with the Bible such as spreading good will, evangelizing, or tripping little boys, what's the one thing they never do? Read the whole thing. That's what Martin Kennedy did. He discovered that all of the lessons and parables within this respected piece of literature was surrounded by at best confusing stories and at worst horrible tales of human flaws. That compelled him to write He said it, I didn't. When read with no preconceived notions of infallibility, the Bible is a stirring example of the depths that the human race will go to when it believes their actions are backed up by an almighty force. And when their God can beat your God, someone's not going to have a good day. As a "non-believer," Martin was able to detach himself emotionally from what would have been a sad and sobering examination of Christianity. Instead, he pulled from his comedic roots and delivered a "book report" filled with humor, irreverence, and insight. You may not ever want to see his face, but you’ll never look at the Bible the same either.

Isabel was able to remember the precise moment she tried killing her husband. Strangely enough, she couldn't recollect why. A page-turning tale of tangled love, which makes for perfect summer reading. Thus begins the powerful story of Isabel, who, at the age of 28, has been granted early success as the head of a publishing house. . . a woman of taste and discernment, endowed with enviable wit and a razor-sharp mind. Yet, as the novel opens, we know that Isabel is in great trouble and has possibly lost her mind. Elegantly yet sparely written, hers is a tale of seduction, vertiginous love, and colossal betrayal. When Isabel meets James-a handsome, aristocratic, highly talented writer known in equal parts for his entitlement, drinking, and gift for charming women-she falls head over heels for him, despite all her friends' dire warnings. Breaking his past pattern, however, James also falls for Isabel, and they decide to marry. However improbable a couple, they confound their family and friends, becoming an ideal match, as much in love with each other as they are devoted to their son. The question is: What happens to drive Isabel to her act of insanity? Skyhorse Publishing, as well as our Arcade, Yucca, and Good Books imprints, are proud to publish a broad range of books for readers interested in fiction—novels, novellas, political and medical thrillers, comedy, satire, historical fiction, romance, erotic and love stories, mystery, classic literature, folklore and mythology, literary classics including Shakespeare, Dumas, Wilde, Cather, and much more. While not every title we publish becomes a New York Times bestseller or a national bestseller, we are committed to books on subjects that are sometimes overlooked and to authors whose work might not otherwise find a home.

As humans, things happen to us sometimes that we cannot fully understand. We desire to explain them when from human perspective there's no explanation that really exists. Our perplexion at things of that nature are not just about when they happen to us but also the things we witness in the world around us. They oftentimes shake the foundations of our faith in God to the core. But as much as not knowing hurts, at no time should our reaction be to accuse God for things we don't understand. Rather, we should know that God is not always the architect of all our problems and that He might not always save us from people that live to harm us or bless us the way we want because we take a stand with Him. His promise however is one thing and that is that He'll work it all out for HIS OWN ENDS even the wicked for a day of disaster Proverbs 16:4b. However your pain occurred, God's declared intentions are that He'll use all of your problems any which way they present to work out His will for your life. The deaths of some of the people that went before us is proof that for reasons best known to Him, God at times chooses not to deliver people that take a stand with Him. And it's not because He hated such people but because of what He already planned to use the situation for.

In the ten-plus years since Susan Burmeister-Brown and Linda B. Swanson-Davies founded Glimmer Train, they have introduced an astonishing array of talented and innovative authors to a growing readership hungry for inspiring fiction. The stunning stories in this anthology -- many of which have never appeared anywhere except in Glimmer Train Stories -- explore one of the most complex emotional and psychological ties of all: motherhood, and its many facets. The writers in Mother Knows include established authors as well as up-and-coming talents like Junot DÍaz and award-winning writers like Robin Bradford, Nancy Reisman, Lee Martin, and Doug Crandell. Their stories demonstrate that motherhood is more than toilet training and tantrum control, as they portray the full, fierce, joyous, and frightening range of experience that marks this state of being. DO YOU find yourself sometimes wondering why others tell you that you don’t listen? DO YOU find yourself being told that while you seemed to be listening, you are making completely misguided comments or asking questions making it clear you haven’t heard a word they have said? Listening effectively and beyond the spoken words is a key skill that we would all benefit from doing even better than we do now. This book is a practical guide for people wanting to improve their listening skills, which will improve all their relationships, from family to work and back.
