Soho in the nineteen seventies was not the trendy place to visit as it is today. It was a very dark part of New York City, abandoned factory buildings dotted the neighborhood, junkies roamed the streets, graffiti was everywhere. On the morning of May 25, 1979, a boy, barely six-years old, was allowed to walk to his school bus stop alone, “ACCORDING TO HIS MOTHER.” He never returned home. That night, NYPD’s NSU II was called into action and Officer Joyce and eleven other cops were assigned to search the little boy’s neighborhood. Office Joyce had a nine-month-old daughter and the thought of her disappearing propelled him into a search that spanned many years. Through his investigations he learned about the dark secrets of SoHo. The case eventually went frozen until a New Jersey man revealed his dark secret. A secret which he had kept in his mind for so many years. His revelation lead to his second trial and conviction. The trial judge sentenced the man to twenty-five years to life for a crime, the author strongly believes, he did not commit. It has been thirty-nine years since the Little Boy from Soho went missing. This highly decorated Lieutenant, is now retired, but he wants to pursue this case in court, to exonerate the man from New Jersey, and reveal the truths that have haunted him for all these years. One truth being that neither the Prosecution nor the Defense wanted the Lieutenant to testify in this case. This book will expose the truth that has been concealed for so many years.

Soho has always been a source of fascination. A district quite unlike any other in London, where glamour meets squalor and then often merges. It is different, never mirroring the changes of its more fashionable neighbours. It seduces and destroys in equal measures. In 1932, under the ownership of Mrs Laura Henderson, the Windmill Theatre opened and, after entertaining audiences through thirty-two years of dramatic change in Soho, finally closed its doors in 1964.

‘In the closing pages of the last volume, I got married. The ceremony marked a rare outbreak of normality in my life. It was symbolized by my personal appearance. I was clean-shaven and had a hairstyle in reasonably close touch with my head.’ After Unreliable Memoirs, Falling Towards England and May Week Was In June comes the fourth instalment in Clive James’s life. Taking us from Fleet Street to Clive James on TV, from Russian department stores to Paris fashion shows — via fatherhood, some killer bees, and a satire starring Anne Robinson as Mrs Thatcher — North Face of Soho is the larger-than-life story of a life lived to the full.

In Travels with Ernest: Crossing the Literary/Sociological Divide, Laurel Richardson and Ernest Lockridge_accomplished sociologist and published novelist_explore the fascinating interplay between literary and ethnographic writing. The exciting result is an intriguing experimental text that simultaneously delves into, reveals, simplifies, and complicates methodologies of writing and conveying experience. Refusing to force their unique voices into one integrated account, the authors_also spouses_explicate their stories in separate narratives and then discuss in transcribed 'free-wheeling' conversations their different constructions of their travels together, travels simultaneously experienced, but recalled and related differently through the filters of distinct professional perceptions, life histories, and interiors. This boundary-crossing text will provide an ideal platform for students and professors interested in understanding and exploring the absorbing complexities and possibilities of ethnographic writing and creative nonfiction.

Mara Dyer believes life can't get any stranger than waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there. It can. She believes there must be more to the accident she can't remember that killed her friends and left her strangely unharmed. There is. She doesn't believe that after everything she's been through, she can fall in love. She's wrong. Mara wakes from a coma in hospital with no memory of how she got there or of the bizarre accident that caused the deaths of her best friends and her boyfriend, yet left her mysteriously unharmed. The doctors suggest that starting over in a new city, a new school, would be good for her and just to let the memories gradually come back on their own. But Mara's new start is anything but comforting. She sees the faces of her dead friends everywhere, and when she suddenly begins to see other people's deaths right before they happen, Mara wonders whether she's going crazy! And if dealing with all this wasn't enough, Noah Shaw, the most beautiful boy she has ever seen can't seem to leave her alone… but as her life unravels around her, Mara can't help but wonder if Noah has another agenda altogether… "Haunting and dreamlike... the intrigue and romance will inescapably draw you in" - Cassandra Clare, bestselling author of The Mortal Instruments series.
