"A theatre group is trying desperately to put on a play in spite of maddening interference from a haughty author who keeps revising the script. Act I is a rehearsal of the dreadful show, Act II is the near disastrous dress rehearsal, and the final act is the actual performance, in which anything that can go wrong, does."--Publisher.

"After forty-six years of being on the road, this is the right time to look back in a way I've never done before: now and then. This is the story of my life in rock and roll -- and how the band that has meant everything to me came to define me. I'm looking forward to sharing it with you." Mick Fleetwood has been a member of the ever-evolving Fleetwood Mac, one of the world's most successful and adored bands, for over four decades. Here he tells the full and candid story of his life as one of music's greatest drummers and bandleaders, the cofounder of the deeply loved supergroup that bears his name and that of his bandmate and lifelong friend John McVie. In this intimate portrait of a life lived in music, Fleetwood vividly recalls his upbringing tapping along to every song playing on the radio, his experiences as a musician in '60s London, and the earliest permutation of the band featuring Peter Green. Play On sheds new light on Fleetwood Mac's raucous history, describing the highs and lows of being in the band that Fleetwood was determined to keep together. Here he reflects on the creation of landmark albums such as Rumours and Tusk, the great loves of his life, and the many incredible and outrageous moments of recording, touring, and living with Fleetwood Mac. Fleetwood describes these moments with honesty and immediacy, taking us to the very heart of this multilayered journey that has always been anchored in music. Through it all, from intense love to plaintive heartaches, from collaborations to confrontations, it's been the drive to play on that has prevailed. Now, then, and always, it's Fleetwood Mac.

The Irish Play on the New York Stage, 1874-1966

Over the years American -- especially New York -- audiences have evolved a consistent set of expectations for the "Irish play." Traditionally the term implied a specific subject matter, invariably rural and Catholic, and embodied a reductive notion of Irish drama and society. This view continues to influence the types of Irish drama produced in the United States today. By examining seven different opening nights in New York theaters over the course of the last century, John Harrington considers the reception of Irish drama on the American stage and explores the complex interplay between drama and audience expectations. All of these productions provoked some form of public disagreement when they were first staged in New York, ranging from the confrontation between Shaw and the Society for the Suppression of Vice to the intellectual outcry provoked by billing Waiting for Godot as "the laugh sensation of two continents." The inaugural volume in the series Irish Literature, History, and Culture, The Irish Play on the New York Stage explores the New York premieres of The Shaughraun (1874), Mrs. Warren's Profession (1905), The Playboy of the Western World (1911), Exiles (1925), Within the Gates (1934), Waiting for Godot (1956), and Philadelphia, Here I Come! (1966).

Check out Bundy singing one of his songs to his Granddaughter at her Bat Mitzvah http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_CQCy7f1Xw PLAY ON WORDS is another term for pun. Pun is the humorous use of a word or phrase so as to emphasize or suggest its diff erent meanings or applications. Play can mean a dramatic composition or piece; a performance, as on the stage; exercise or activity for amusement or recreation; fun or jest, as opposed to seriousness (Dictionary.com). This book is full of humor, puns, and lots of fun. H. Bundy Shaw loved words. He loved the diff erent uses, the different meanings, and the different pronunciations of words. Bundy also loved to play the piano, sing, and make people smile. Most of all, he loved his family, friends, and extended family. This book is a sixty-year history of Bundys writing, beginning with poems he wrote during World War II, through his career with Playtex, his retirement in southern Florida until his death in 2002. He wrote lyrics for skits at the Playtex Annual Meeting, which included Trouble in Midriff City about the new Long Line Living Bra. He wrote lyrics and poems for anniversaries, weddings, birthdays, and bar and bat mitzvahs. Encompassed in them was a complete biography of the person or people he was honoring. He also wrote a musical, Our Fair Couple, which is a spoof of My Fair Lady. Bundy never earned any money from his lyrics and writing, so all the profits from the sale of this book will be donated to the National MS Society in his memory. It is my hope that these writings will bring enjoyment to you.

Play a song for me… Musicians are being murdered in New Orleans. But Arnie Watson apparently died by his own hand. When Tyler Anderson plays the saxophone he inherited from Arnie, a soldier and musician who died soon after his return, he believes he sees visions of his friend's life—and death. He becomes convinced Arnie was murdered and that the instrument had something to do with whatever happened, and with whatever's happening all over the city… Tyler knows his theory sounds crazy to the police, so he approaches Danni Cafferty, hoping she and Michael Quinn will find out what the cops couldn't. Or wouldn't. After all, Cafferty and Quinn have become famous for solving unusual crimes. They're partners in their personal lives, too. Quinn's a private investigator and Danni works with him. When they look into the case, they discover a secret lover of Arnie's and a history of jealousies and old hatreds that leads them back to the band Arnie once played with—and Tyler plays with now. They discover that sometimes, for some people, the line between passion and obsession is hard to draw. Only in uncovering the truth can they hope to save others—and themselves—from the deadly hands of a killer.

A Most Unsuitable Girl (A Play On Dowry Deaths) And Conquest At Noon (A Historical Fantasy)

A Most Unsuitable Girl, is a tragicomedy play on the prevalent social practice in India on giving dowry upon the marriage of young woman by her parents and how in certain circumstances the absence (or lack ) of dowry might have potentially fatal consequences for the bride. The play, despite having been written in a comic style, is more serious and hard hitting compared with other tragic plays written on the subject. The characters in the play take varying positions on the phenomenon of dowry and even on dowry death itself, which reflect perspectives prevalent in mainstream Indian society. In the list of characters there is a judge a prosecutor and a defence lawyer who discuss legal angles, which are not without interest. In addition the play points to the power and sexual jealousy of mother-in-law playing a much ignored but extremely significant role in the carrying out of these unspeakably beastial crimes. Conquest at Noon, the second play, is a historical fantasy. As is commonly known, India was successfully colonized by the British for three hundred years. In this play, the author creates a historical fantasy in which India was the colonizing power and the British were the subject population.

The story of Nico, former model, film actress, singer with the Velvet Underground and darling of Andy Warhol's factory.;In 1982 Nico was living in Manchester, alone and interested only in feeding her heroin habit. Local promoter Dr Demetrius saw an opportunity, hired musicians to back her, rented a decrepit van and set off with Nico and the band on a disastrous tour of Italy. Over the next six years, until her death in 1988, Nico toured the world with assorted thrown-together bands. They made next to no money, appalled many of their audiences and occasionally, on the rare nights when the music worked, pleased a few.;James Young played keyboards for Nico throughout those years. In this book, he records the never-ending antics of a picaresque circus of addicts, outsiders and misfits who travelled the world - East and Western Europe, the United States, Australia and Japan - encountering an equally bizarre and extraordinary mixture of people: poets, artists, gangsters, losers and drifters. John Cale, John Cooper Clarke, Allen Ginsberg and Gregory Corso are among those who appear in this story of Nico, the last Bohemian.

I want to introduce myself to the world. Hi my name is Ritchie C. Mcphee Sr. Bahamian by birth, but still just a mortal human being, A MAN, a man like any other man. This is not a memoir, just me looking at the world through my eyes. This is just an insight into the way I think, the way I reason, the way I rationalize, and try to make sense of this world that we live in. Some of you might be surprised at my interpretation of what I'm seeing, some might be in denial, while others might have the same interpretations, and simply just don't care. All I want to do is raise the conscious thinking of man, and hopefully learn a little more about myself as I grow through this book.

A Game to Play on the Tracks is the story of booze-loose and too-smart singer, Arden, and her failed return to the life of country music and the British Columbia bar scene. She has a new baby, some unhealed hurts, and a husband, Nichol, who is stuck in boyhood and thinks and talks in bad poems. Arden doesn't survive the road, and the story belongs then to Nichol and Roy the Boy, those left behind to search the west coast for a good home, a good life, a meaningful history. Without Arden, Nichol tries a series of goofed-up love affairs and real estate blunders, and Roy grows up questioning a fallen pastoral world that isn't always kind to children, haunted by his long-gone mother and her big-city tunes.

Old Age Is Just ''A Play on Words''

A Celebration for the Young at Heart

Old Age is Just "A Play on Words" is providing me a grand opportunity to perform a literary song and dance in honor of people whom I have admired and respected throughout the years. Many of these people have been older relatives, friends, and acquaintances who have been a great influence in my life and in the lives of others. I have endeavored to honor them against a thematic backdrop of agelessness which they all represent. They deserve to be celebrated because of their wisdom, knowledge, wit, and zeal for living wholesome and exuberant lives, in spite of the social, environmental, and health related obstacles that they encountered. The poem, "Lonnie", is based on the actual words spoken by an older gentleman who proudly expressed to me his leisure-time activities. I immediately thought, "These are age old occurrences because old age is just a play on words.'" My fondness for "good southern living" was the inspiration for the section entitled "Call Me Country All You Wanna". Furthermore, my appreciation of my southern upbringing is woven in the other three sections of the book, Age of Contradictions, Old Fashioned Genuine Love, and Let Every Tongue Confess.(Ron Parker) Ron Parker's spirited collection of poems shows us how universal a celebration of the human experience can be. This body of work gives real-life people an opportunity to re-experience their hopes, dreams, ups, and downs which are so familiar to mankind. Each poem will touch where the crux of passion and zeal for life dwells. This modern day Wordsworth pens a style that is direct, pointed, and committed to delineating the vivid mental images that will strike a chord of "I Remember" in the minds of every reader.(Dr.Azalie B. Hightower)
