Ernest Hemingway (ヘミングウェイ) is a giant among 20th-century American authors. Even during his own time, he had a cult following. His many books, The Old Man and the Sea, A Farewell to Arms, For Whom the Bell Tolls, and The Snows of Kilimanjaro remain well-loved classics to this day. In 1954 Hemmingway won the Nobel Prize for literature in recognition of his talent. “Papa” Hemingway possessed a bright personality and traveled incessantly. He handwrote his manuscripts in pencil and on a “good” day he could write seven pencils down to their nubs while standing in one place; moving only to shift his body weight from one foot to the other. A tragic figure, he suffered from numerous maladies and injuries throughout his life: anthrax, malaria, amoebic dysentery, pneumonia, skin cancer, hepatitis, and diabetes amongst them. Additionally, he experienced ruptured internal organs (kidneys, spleen, and liver), a cracked vertebra, and a fractured skull. His passions were three: literature, alcohol, and fishing. Among his favorite books, Hemingway listed Flaber’s Madam Bovary, Stendhal’s The Red and the Black, Joyce’s Dubliners, Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina, and Dostoyevsky’s The Brothers Karamazov as must-reads for all. "The perfect combination of sweet, sexy, and make-you-grin moments." - Lyssa Kay Adams, author of The Bromance Book Club "An ode to everything we love about rom-coms." - Alexis Daria, author of You Had Me at Hola In her trade paperback debut, Melonie Johnson brings her signature humor, sexy romance, and strong female friendships in this hilarious romantic comedy about finding perfectly imperfect love, Too Good to Be Real. She plans to prove there's a dozen reasons why life isn't like a romantic comedy, only to discover the one reason it is... While her friends wish for meet cutes worthy of their favorite rom-coms, Julia is ready to give up on love. Swiping right has replaced getting swept off your feet and good old-fashioned romance has become, well, old-fashioned. A writer for a popular website, love becomes the last thing on her mind when impending layoffs threaten her job. As Julia searches for the ultimate pitch to impress her boss, she stumbles upon a resort offering guests a chance to live out their romantic comedy dreams. Real life dating is so bleak, who wouldn't want to spend a week in a fantasy rom-com world with your best friends? At the resort, Julia literally falls into a not-quite-meet-cute involving an aggressive seagull and an adorably awkward guy named Luke who is also participating in the rom-com experience. Julia hides the fact she is there to do a story, but Luke harbors a few secrets of his own. Among further encounters with thieving seagulls, a gaggle of corgis, kisses in the rain, and even a karaoke serenade, their feelings deepen quickly. But could their love be real when they haven't been honest about their true identities? Once the fantasy is over, can they have a relationship in the real world?
Both his sister and his best friend liked to tease him about his ever-present notebook. Vijay said it was Luke's version of a pocket protector, while Penelope insisted it was a security blanket. They could make fun of him all they ...

The plot of Crime and Punishment is probably familiar to many. An impoverished former student, Rodion Romanovich Raskolnikov lives in St. Petersburg. Raskolnikov is a nihilist, driven by a utilitarian prospective, he contemplates committing a terrible crime. Dostoyevsky explores psychology of crime and punishment and focuses on what lies between the two end points. Raskolnikov’s inner world is full of doubts, deliria and despair – partly a result of his utter disregard of social norms. Alienated from society, he is forced to face his tormenting guilt almost completely on his own. Pretty illustrations by Dmitrii Rybalko provide you with new impressions from reading this legendary story.

This is a comprehensive grammar of the Papuan language Bunaq as spoken in the district of Lamaknen. Bunaq belongs to the Timor-Alor-Pantar language family, which comprises the westernmost Papuan languages. Surrounded on all sides by Austronesian languages, Bunaq has developed in isolation from other members of the family, and as a result shows a range of unique morphosyntactic patterns. This grammar provides a detailed synchronic description of Bunaq based on a functional-typological approach. Following additional fieldwork and containing new material and analyses, this book is a thoroughly revised version of the author’s 2010 PhD thesis, which won the Pāṇini Award of the Association for Linguistic Typology.

Some Joseph Conrad’s works are seen by critics as being influenced by works of a famous Russian writer Fyodor Dostoyevsky. Despite that he himself claimed that he allegedly does not like this writer, for example, when talking about Dostoyevsky’s novel "The Brothers Karamazov": ‘It's terrifically bad and impressive and exasperating'. Yet, in Conrad's novel ‘The Eyes of the West’ , which talks about Russian emigre-revolutionists an attentive reader will undoubtedly feel Dostoevsky's influence on the work of the great English writer. Pretty illustrations by Dmitrii Rybalko provide you with new impressions from reading this legendary story.

Few institutions have as profound an impact on the American theatrical landscape as the Tony Award-winning Williamstown Theatre Festival, located in Williamstown, Massachusetts. New Plays from Williamstown Theatre Festival 2015-2021 provides a sample of the dozens of plays that have been created and/or premiered at the Festival during the Artistic Directorship of Mandy Greenfield. In addition to stories that shine a light into new or underexplored corners of the human condition, these plays frequently feature complex and boundary-pushing central roles for women actors. These six plays are manifestations of living, American playwrights grappling with and breathing dramatic life into the conflicts and questions at the heart of who we were, who we are, and who we will become. These plays imagine and interrogate pieces of the human experience we are still in the midst of unpacking and understanding. Complete with introductions by each of the authors reflecting on their work, these historic, award-winning, and groundbreaking plays now live in conversation with one another in this unique collection.
