What makes a great small group Bible study experience? How can we have a Bible study experience that allows every member of the group to deeply enjoy the time together and bear tangible fruit of spiritual growth and transformation? Two answers: authenticity and good questions.Rather than trying to make spiritual growth happen on our own, we need to discover God who is already at work in our lives and join Him in His work. And we need good questions to help us do that. This discussion guide has many questions that were thoughtfully crafted to help you discover God in your life through God's Word written in the book of Jonah. And as you share your genuine journey in Christ with others, you will be mutually encouraged to follow God, growing in Him together empowered by the Spirit. This guide includes... Introduction - what makes a small group Bible study great How to use this guide Questions that drive at the main points of each chapter Thought-provoking questions that help you discover God's work in your heart Powerful quotes from The Prodigal Prophet *This guide is for small group (or individual) study on the book of Jonah and specifically for Timothy Keller's book, The Prodigal Prophet: Jonah and the Mystery of God's Mercy. You will need a copy of the book and a Bible (or a Bible app). The Prodigal Prophet is one of the best books on the book of Jonah that helps readers discover the surprising treasures hidden in the text. The story of Jonah is thought to be well-known, but the actual message of the text is actually yet to be uncovered by most people! You'll be blessed by reading the book and embarking on a journey to God's mercy with others through this guide.Below is the description of The Prodigal Prophet from its Amazon page."An angry prophet. A feared and loathsome enemy. A devastating storm. And the surprising message of a merciful God to his people. The story of Jonah is one of the most well-known parables in the Bible. It is also the most misunderstood. Many people, even those who are nonreligious, are familiar with Jonah: A rebellious prophet who defies God and is swallowed by a whale. But there's much more to Jonah's story than most of us realize. In The Prodigal Prophet, pastor and New York Times bestselling author Timothy Keller reveals the hidden depths within the book of Jonah. Keller makes the case that Jonah was one of the worst prophets in the entire Bible. And yet there are unmistakably clear connections between Jonah, the prodigal son, and Jesus. Jesus in fact saw himself in Jonah. How could one of the most defiant and disobedient prophets in the Bible be compared to Jesus?Jonah's journey also doesn't end when he is freed from the belly of the fish. There is an entire second half to his story--but it is left unresolved within the text of the Bible. Why does the book of Jonah end on what is essentially a cliffhanger? In these pages, Timothy Keller provides an answer to the extraordinary conclusion of this biblical parable--and shares the powerful Christian message at the heart of Jonah's story."*At the author's request, this book is being distributed without Digital Rights Management (DRM) copy protection enabled.

It is easy to assume that if we understand the gospel and preach it faithfully, our ministry will necessarily be shaped by it—but this is not true. Many churches claim to be gospel-centered but do not have a ministry that is shaped by, centered on, and empowered through the gospel. The implications of the gospel have not yet worked their way into the fabric of how that church does ministry. Gospel-centered ministry is more theologically driven than program driven. To pursue it, we must spend time reflecting on the essence, the truths, and the very patterns of the gospel itself. The gospel is neither religion nor irreligion, but something else entirely—a third way of relating to God through grace. In Shaped by the Gospel, bestselling author and pastor Timothy Keller addresses several current discussion and conflicts about the nature of the gospel and shows how faithful preaching of the gospel leads to individual and corporate renewal. This new edition contains the first section of Center Church in an easy-to-read format with new reflections and additional essays from Timothy Keller and several other contributors.

Today many pastors are struggling to adapt to a post-Christian culture without abandoning orthodox theology. How do we communicate the concepts of grace and substitutionary atonement in our globalized culture and context? In Center Church, Timothy Keller offers challenging insights and provocative questions based on over twenty years of ministry in New York City. This book outlines a theological vision for ministry - applying classic doctrines to our time and place - organized around three core commitments: • Gospel-centered: The gospel of grace in Jesus Christ changes everything, from our hearts to our community to the world. It completely reshapes the content, tone and strategy of all that we do. • City-centered: With a positive approach toward our culture, we learn to affirm that cities are wonderful, strategic and underserved places for gospel ministry. • Movement-centered: Instead of building our own tribe, we seek the prosperity and peace of our community as we are led by the Holy Spirit. "In this important book, Tim Keller unpacks the gospel and gently but firmly reminds us that it is nonnegotiable. At the same time, he enables us to think through how we can responsibly interact with the culture, how we can - indeed, must - appreciate good things within it, and how we can firmly and faithfully apply the gospel to it." - D.A. Carson, research professor of New Testament, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School

Modern culture would have you believe that everyone has a soul mate; that romance is the most important part of a successful marriage; that marriage does not mean 'til death do us part, but merely for as long as my needs are being met; and that when serious differences arise, divorce is the best solution. According to the Bible, all of these modern-day assumptions miss what marriage is all about. In this six-session video-based Bible study (DVD/digital video sold separately), Timothy Keller, along with Kathy, his wife of forty years, draws a profound portrait of marriage from the pages of Scripture that neither idealizes nor rejects the institution but points us back to the relationship between God and man. The result is a vision for marriage that is refreshingly frank and unsentimental, yet hopeful and beautiful. This study is for anyone from singles to couples considering marriage to those who have been married recently or for a long time. Sessions include: Service: Marriage Isn't about You Covenant: Created to Make Promises Roles: Loving through Mutual Submission Singleness: Strengthening the Spiritual Family Sex: The Act of Covenant Renewal Hope: Seeing the Great Horizon Designed for use with The Meaning of Marriage Video Study (sold separately).

Walking in The Wisdom of God A Study Guide

We live a time where man’s wisdom prevails, to such an extent that the world has now determined what is good, what is real and what truth is. Moral-relativism has been promoted, where each man determined his own truth at the expense of absolute truth. Where the truth and wisdom of man prevails at the expense of God’s wisdom, then corruption of mind and spirit follows (Romans 1, 1 Corinthians 1). We live a time where often people have turned what was once evil into good, and where good has become unpopular. This is why it says in the Scriptures to seek wisdom begins with the fear of the Lord, for wisdom is to know what is good and what is evil, and to know good from evil. And once we know what is right and wrong, we need to follow such a path. That is wisdom.

You believe Jesus is God. But do you also think of him as a real person? For thirty-three years Jesus felt everything that we have ever felt: weakness, weariness, rejections. His feelings got hurt. His feet grew tired. His head ached. To think of Jesus in such terms almost seems irreverent. It is much easier to keep the humanity out of the incarnation. Clean up the manure from around the manger. Pretend he never snored or hit his thumb with a hammer. There is something about keeping Jesus divine that keeps him distant, packaged, and predictable. But we have to remember that the people who saw Jesus first . . . saw him first as a person. As Max Lucado reveals in this video Bible study, because Jesus became human, it is now possible for us to see God and hear his voice. If we want to know what matters to God, all we need to do is look in the Bible to see what matters to Jesus. If we want to know what God is doing in our world, we need only ponder the words of Jesus. By learning more about the person Jesus was and is, we come to understand more clearly the people we were created to be. Jesus inspires us to spend time at the foot of the cross and search the heart of the one who would rather die for us than live without us. The Jesus Study Guide includes video teaching notes, discussion questions, Bible exploration, and weekly personal study and reflection materials. Sessions include: God with Us Friend of Sinners Compassionate Physician Great Teacher Miracle Worker Victorious Sacrifice Designed for use with the Jesus Video Study (9780310105855); sold separately.
