Nothing within the world has the power to make the world continue; yet it is intrinsic to the temporal world that it does continue, and does not exist merely instantaneously. On this basis, the author renews St. Thomas's way of conceiving God as the immediate principle of existence, but doesthis de novo, never drawing upon any authority, but working within the exigencies of contemporary general philosophy. The philosophy of religion is for him never a separate discipline but the fruit of a proper working through of the inter-related problems of the philosophy of mind and action, epistemology, and logical theory with the correlative restructuring of metaphysics.

Responding to contemporary popular atheism, Robert J. Spitzer's New Proofs for the Existence of God examines the considerable evidence for God and creation that has come to light from physics and philosophy during the last forty years. An expert in diverse areas, including theology, physics, metaphysics, and ethics, Spitzer offers in this text the most contemporary, complete, and integrated approach to rational theism currently available. "Skepticism about the possibility of proving the existence of God often relies on data from modern science. In this splendid new book Father Robert Spitzer explores the implications of the latest discoveries in big bang cosmology, string theory, quantum physics, and the ontology of time to craft a series of convincing philosophical arguments. To paraphrase a popular commercial, this is not your father's old 'natural theology' textbook ù it's a gripping and compelling account of the best current arguments for theism."ùJoseph W. Koterski, S.J., Foidham University "A most original and insightful case for the existence of God.... Fr. Spitzer's new proofs pose a serious and compelling challenge to the unconscious hegemony of naturalism in the worlds of both philosophy and the sciences."ùFrancis J. Beckwith, Baylor University "Rare is the theologian who keeps abreast of the latest developments in fundamental physics, and even rarer the one who can discuss them with the theological and philosophical sophistication that Fr. Spitzer displays in this book. A challenging and original work."ùStephen M. Barr, University of Delaware, author of Modern Physics and Ancient Faith

Infinity and the Proofs for the Existence of God

This book is more than just a set of logical proofs. It shows us who and what God is, and explains how our universe exploded into existence in the Big Bang, some 13.799 billion years ago, in such a way that all other Being in the universe derives its existence and nature — and its capacities for growth, power, moral character, change, and novelty — from God as the Ground of Being. This is a book for people who are interested in philosophy. It begins with a discussion of some of the fallacies into which the concept of infinity has led careless thinkers over the centuries. In particular, Chesnut demonstrates how often the modern defenses of atheism have been based on what are no more than pseudo-infinite regresses. This includes in particular self-delusive attempts to get rid of God by constructing what would be no more than imaginary universe-sized perpetual motion machines. The last half of the book then has as its central focus the set of Five Proofs for the Existence of God formulated by the great medieval thinker St. Thomas Aquinas, where Chesnut begins by showing how each of the proofs was interpreted in the middle ages. But the development of modern science requires that the Five Proofs be reworked for today, so he shows, for example, how the Proof from Motion can be reworded as an Argument from Energy, subject to the laws of thermodynamics, and how the Proof from Gradations in Truth and Value forces us to decide whether we will accept that at least some moral values are real, or instead will become what modern psychologists call psychopaths. This present book, combined with the work Chesnut authored nine years ago — God and Spirituality: Philosophical Essays — sets out an architectonic philosophical system for the twenty-first century, grounded on one side in the classics of the ancient Greco-Roman world and the medieval period, but on the other hand taking seriously the revolutionary changes in western thought produced by the development of twentieth-century science, including relativity, quantum theory, the uncertainty principle, and Gödel’s proof.

Does God exist? Which is true? Evolution, creation...or both? Are we no more than meaningless collisions of molecules? Or do we owe our existence to a Creator, who has willed us (and everything else) into being, and who has a plan and purpose for our lives? The Reality of God addresses these all-important questions by providing an introductory overview of key scientific evidence, philosophical reasons, and insights drawn from human nature demonstrating God’s existence. In simple, accessible language, and well-supported by scientific experts, author Steven Hemler guides the reader through the most compelling evidence for the existence of God. Hemler shows how natural sciences such as biology, chemistry and physics far from disproving religious belief suggest and reveal the existence of a Creator at every turn. Those seeking sound reasons and credible science supporting belief in God will cherish this easy-to-read book. The Reality of God provides: • An opportunity to address doubts about God’s existence • Persuasive reasons for belief • Arguments showing the compatibility of faith and reason • Answers to the evolution vs. creation debate The Reality of God puts forth in layman’s terms how science and the natural world point to God’s existence. Anyone seeking answers to life’s deepest question will find in author Steven Hemler an indispensable guide.

God – the supernatural being, the perfect, the omnipotent and the omniscient originator, and ruler of the universe – is the object of worship in almost all religions across the world. Usually, people understand God through the religions they’re born in. This way, they get to learn how and why their Gods created reality and put them in it. But is this the only possible way to understand the entity? What if one takes an alternate route to understand God? What if one first understands the reality God created – the reality that everything and everyone’s a part of – and then identifies the entity itself? Reality includes everything around and inside it, and inevitably includes us. Understanding the reality requires a metaphysical analysis of life and the universe and metaphysics reaches an incredibly new level if the knowledge of the Western sciences is merged with the everlasting ideas of the Eastern spiritual philosophies! With multiple perspectives making the reader constantly inquisitive, The Concept of ‘God’ merges the knowledge of science and spirituality to understand the nature of life and reality and then finds out who the all-powerful God is!

Jerome I. Gellman observes that the mystic experience of God's presence, a sense of having direct contact with the divine, often compels belief in God's existence. On the basis of widely accepted principles connecting appearance with reality, Gellman contends, the claims people make of having experienced God show that belief in God is strongly rational, meaning that such claims are sufficient in number and variety to support a line of reasoning making it rational to believe that God exists and irrational to deny God's existence. Gellman considers challenges to his thinking based on epistemological grounds and challenges growing out of the diversity of religious experiences across the range of world religions. He thoroughly evaluates reductionist explanations of apparent experiences of God and finds them incapable of invalidating his view. Finally, he directs his attention to the two most compelling arguments against the existence of God: the charge that the idea of a perfect being is logically incoherent, and the threat to theism based on the existence of evil, in both its logical and probabilistic forms. Until and unless stronger objections come along, he concludes, personal experiences of God constitute sufficient evidence of God's existence.

In The Divine Reality, (Newly Revised Edition 2019) Hamza Andreas Tzortzis provides a compelling case for the rational and spiritual foundations of Islam, whilst intelligently and compassionately deconstructing atheism. Join him on an existential, spiritual and rational journey that articulates powerful arguments for the existence of God, the Qur'an, the Prophethood of Muhammad and why we must know, love and worship God. He addresses academic and popular objections while showing how contemporary atheism is based on false assumptions about reality, which leads to incoherent answers to life's important questions. - Does hope, happiness and human value make sense without the Divine?- Do we have an ultimate purpose?- Can we have consciousness and rational minds without God?- Did the universe come from nothing?- Does evil and suffering negate Divine mercy?- Has scientific progress led to the denial of God?- Are revelation and prophethood myths?- Is God worthy of our worship? If you want to know how the Islamic intellectual and spiritual tradition answers these questions then this is the book for you.Hamza Andreas Tzortzis's new book presents a much needed comprehensive account of Islamic theism that draws upon Western and Islamic thought. Hamza Tzortzis is an international speaker, writer and instructor. He has a PgCert and an MA in philosophy and is currently continuing his postgraduate studies in the field. Hamza has studied Islamic thought and theology under qualified scholars. He has delivered workshops and courses on topics related to Islamic thought and philosophy. Hamza has debated prominent academics and thinkers on Islam and atheism.Reviews: Hamza Tzortzis's work is a much needed and welcome addition to the field of modern Islamic thought. It engages with the rising tide of atheism from an Islamic paradigm, and responds, in an erudite yet easily comprehensible manner, to the primary arguments espoused by the leading figures of New Age Atheism. It is clear that Hamza has spent much time in reading the works of many intellectuals, past and present, and compiling these arguments and counter-arguments. I found the book highly useful, and have no doubt that it will be well received by contemporary Muslims. --- Dr. Yasir Qadhi, Deen of Academic Affairs, The Islamic Seminary of AmericaThe Divine Reality is a much needed resource for Muslims to tackle the contemporary issues on atheism, science, and belief in God from an Islamic perspective. Tzortzis provides a clear and philosophically coherent analysis of arguments that on the surface appear new but in fact have been asked since time immemorial. Intertwined with personal experience and reflections, The Divine Reality is not dry philosophical reading. Tzortzis brings a spiritual and an intellectual combination to his writing that makes for a captivating read. --- Dr. Mohamed Ghilan, PhD Neuroscience, Founder of Andalus OnlineThe Divine Reality takes you through the world of Islamic theism in a systematic and coherent fashion. It is a pioneering effort which will hopefully guide the reader, and other writers, on how to answer the questions related to God's existence and worship from the perspective of Islamic thought. --- Omar Suleiman, President of the Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research and Professor of Islamic Studies at Southern Methodist UniversityThe Divine Reality is a valuable contribution to the ongoing exchange between Muslims and atheists. Those interested in the field will benefit from the accessible way Hamza Tzortzis infuses both God and godliness into the conversation, all the while courageously willing to tackle the philosophical issues head on and in an interesting way. This book focuses on the timelessness of God, providing a detailed analysis of the nature of time and eternity. Padgett offers a biblical and historical survey of the doctrine of eternity, rejecting both theories of eternity being both 'timeless' and 'everlasting'. Padgett argues that traditionally the doctrine of absolute divine timelessness is not compatible with God's actions in the world. ÒGod is in some sense temporal, yet He is the ground of time, the Lord of time and is 'relatively' timeless.

When people encounter an argument for or against God's existence, it often raises more questions than it answers. In Letters to Doubting Thomas, C. Stephen Layman offers a fresh, insightful approach to the issue of God's existence--a way to organize what can seem like a blizzard of claims and concepts--bringing clarity to a debate often mired in confusion. Layman explores the evidence for the existence of God in a series of fictionalized letters between two characters--Zachary, a philosopher, and Thomas, an old college friend who appeals to Zach for help in sorting out his thoughts about God. As their correspondence grows, Zachary leads Thomas through an informal and highly readable comparison of Naturalism (the belief that there is no God and that ultimate reality is physical reality), and Theism (the idea that there is an almighty, perfectly good God). In engaging letters that break down complex philosophical arguments into easily digestible bits, the two friends delve into such weighty topics as the reliability of religious experience, various arguments for God's existence (such as the cosmological, design, and moral arguments), the question of free will, and the problem of evil. A piece at a time, they build an argument that shows that Theism, on balance, provides a better explanation of the world and human life than does Naturalism. Here then is a highly accessible account of the major arguments for and against the existence of God, capturing some of the best new insights of modern philosophy in a marvelously clear and engaging format.

Atheists do not want you or anyone else to read this book as you can see from the one-star reviews they have posted on this page, and it's no wonder. This book not only shows that Darwin's theory of evolution is totally incapable of explaining how life came about and evolved, it shows that their religion, Scientific Materialism, is based on false premises and needs to be replaced with science that is based on facts rather than not falsehoods. The time has come for believers to fight back. This book was written in an effort to give Christians the ammunition that will be needed to prevent atheists from pushing religion underground. Currently, far-left Democrats are doing everything in their power to impeach a duly-elected Republican president of the United States, and whether or not they like President Trump, most Christians would agree the Republican Party is the one party that stands up for God and Christian values. Because of the Democrat's impeachment efforts and the enabling left-wing media, public opinion could take a dramatic turn against the president and his party, resulting in a landslide victory for the Left--and a bonanza for their cause. With a radical Progressive in the White House, and a Democrat majority in the House and Senate, the Left will begin to systematically impose its will, and near the top of their agenda is the total eradication of God and religion. This was highlighted in a speech at the University of Notre Dame given on October 11, 2019 by Attorney General William Barr, who blasted "militant secularists" and their attacks on Judeo-Christian values, saying, "This is organized destruction. Secular forces and their allies have marshaled all the forces of mass communication, popular culture, the entertainment industry, and academia, in an unremitting assault on religion and traditional values."Secularists use Scientific Materialism, which is still taught in schools, to refute the existence of God, and each year more and more people believe them. According to just-released Pew Research data, those who say they are atheist, agnostic, or "nothing in particular," now stand at 26%, up from 17% in 2009. This book can turn the tables and the tide because it contains irrefutable evidence that God exists. Christians need to know the facts it contains and use them to bring God back into schools and to give the general public a wakeup call. It shows, for example, that Scientific Materialism is based on tenets that are patently false: #1) that nothing exists other than material substance and #2) that intelligence and consciousness did not exist until evolution produced a brain. Here is a summary of the ammunition this book provides:1) Evidence showing that the material universe had a beginning and a creator; 2) Evidence showing that, from its beginning, the universe was crafted to allow life to exist; 3) Evidence from biology showing that after the universe came into being, large amounts of genetic information similar to computer code came about in DNA that make life possible, indicating there must have been a highly-intelligent programmer--in other words, God; 4) Evidence from quantum physics and other sources that mind is a medium that is present everywhere, and this is what enables believers to communicate with God via prayer and the Holy Spirit; 5) Evidence from research that shows the brain does not create consciousness, but rather, that a person's consciousness originates elsewhere, i.e., their soul, and the brain receives and integrates it with the body. This is why life after death is a reality.; and finally 6) Evidence from double-blind studies that prayer works. In the aggregate, this book demonstrates that science textbooks produced and studied over the past hundred or so years are woefully incorrect and need to be discarded and rewritten from scratch. Christians are urged to work together to make this happen.

This book addresses the most important matter which is the reality of god and the origination of all. It provides philosophical explanation and logical and rational proofs and evidence for the existence of the creator of all that is in existence such as the primitiveness, the creation of you, the effect, the annulment of determination and breaking of resolution, the happening and changing, the limit of all, the wonders of creation and organisation and proportionality of all and that not knowing does not mean non-existence. It also philosophically dives into the attributes of the creator like the ability, knowledge, will and creation-ability. It as well elaborates the no-beginning characterisation, the veil from his creation, the invalidity of sensing the creator by materialistic senses or imagination, the invalidity of time and place and movement upon him and that he is everywhere, the invalidity of having feelings like the creations' and the thingness of him.

It is commonly held that there is no place for the 'now’ in physics, and also that the passing of time is something subjective, having to do with the way reality is experienced but not with the way reality is. Indeed, the majority of modern theoretical physicists and philosophers of physics contend that the passing of time is incompatible with modern physical theory, and excluded in a fundamental description of physical reality. This book provides a forceful rebuttal of such claims. In successive chapters the author explains the historical precedents of the modern opposition to time flow, giving careful expositions of matters relevant to becoming in classical physics, the special and general theories of relativity, and quantum theory, without presupposing prior expertise in these subjects. Analysing the arguments of thinkers ranging from Aristotle, Russell, and Bergson to the proponents of quantum gravity, he contends that the passage of time, understood as a local becoming of events out of those in their past at varying rates, is not only compatible with the theories of modern physics, but implicit in them.

Some of the brightest scientific minds of our time, from Albert Einstein to Stephen Hawking, have made incredible insights into the earliest origins of the universe, but have failed to ultimately discover why there is something rather than nothing—why we exist. In A Case for the Existence of God, Dean L. Overman examines the latest theories about the origins of the universe and explains why even the most sophisticated science can only take us so far. Ultimately we must make a leap of faith to understand the world, and Overman argues that a leap into theism provides the most satisfying conclusions. Overman explores fundamental questions about why our world exists and how it functions, using principles of logic, physics, and theology. In a time when religion and science are often portrayed as diametrically opposed, A Case for the Existence of God presents a refreshing view of the interplay between science and religion and makes a compelling case for the existence of God and his role in our world.

The path to true human happiness is governed by the laws of nature, including the nature of man. It took me over 18 years to discover them; by the time you get to the end of this book you will know the path I took. This is a report of my journey to discover who I am and why I am here. I have discovered that the purpose and course of my life is determined in the same manner as yours. It matters not who you are or what your particular circumstance is. It doesn't matter if you have lost a child to death or not. It doesn't even matter if you have children or not. It matters not if you are a murderer or a saint; gay or straight; male or female; first world citizen or jungle savage; plant or animal. The purpose for living is the same for all living things. This book is the result of my search for what the true content of The Mind of God is, and how, by once acquiring the content of The Mind of God, it can be applied to one's own benefit. By reading this book you will be exposed to the method of human knowledge acquisition and it will forever change the content of your mind. It is said that a mind, once expanded by a new idea, can never return to its original size. Prepare yourself for a mind-expanding experience.

The Six Ways of Atheism

Geoffrey Berg, a graduate of Cambridge University, England, believes the case for atheism has never been put in as forceful and logically cogent a way as it merits, least of all by the great philosophers. In this book he sets out to remedy that by strengthening some traditional atheistic arguments and by initiating some new logical arguments for atheism. Geoffrey Berg develops six simple completely logical arguments in clear language that practically everybody can understand in a way that has never been done before to prove that belief in God is not merely unsupported by Logic but is actually contrary to Logic. This is a groundbreaking book because it is probably the first attempt by a single author that devotes an entire book to absolutely disproving the existence of God, all the time matching verbal arguments with strictly logical formulations of the argument. It aims to crystallize the case for atheism in a way that has not been done before. It is likely in retrospect to be seen as a landmark book because some of the novel arguments in this book are likely to be used hereafter by people around the world.

Here then is a highly accessible account of the major arguments for and against the existence of God, capturing some of the best new insights of modern philosophy in a marvelously clear and engaging format.

First published in 1991, Richard M. Gale's classic book is a response to and critique of new, contemporary arguments for the existence of God from analytical philosophers. Considering concepts including time, free will, personhood, actuality and the objectivity of experience, Gale evaluates the new versions of cosmological, ontological, pragmatic and religious experience arguments that emerged in the late-twentieth century. Presented in a fresh twenty-first-century series livery, and including a specially commissioned preface written by Paul K. Moser, illuminating its enduring importance and relevance to philosophical enquiry, this influential work has been revived for a new generation of readers.
