Sally Montgomery anticipated a romantic weekend getaway. What she got instead was a nightmare of unrelenting terror. The murder of her companion and the torching of their cabin sends Sally into hiding—from the police, who believe she's a suspect . . . and from the killer, who wants her dead. Desperate and alone in the woods, Sally has nowhere to run and nowhere to turn—except to her ex-husband, former NYPD detective-turned-private investigator Pete Montgomery, and their daughter Devon, who inherited her father's investigative instincts. Devon's search for the truth takes her dangerously close to the powerful Pierson clan and its enigmatic heir apparent, Blake Pierson. But with Olympic show-jumping gold at stake and his family's empire threatened, whose side is Blake on? Time is rapidly running out for Devon. Racing the clock, she must prove her mother's innocence and outmaneuver the killer before her tactics put her in the wrong place, and one more step will mean certain death.

Luis takes The Book of Memories home and things get crazy in this third zany novel, part of the all-new In Due Time series. When librarian Valerie Tremt gives student Luis Ramirez a chance to go back in time, he knows just what he wants to do. He plans to go back to 1696 and see exactly where Captain William Kidd left buried treasure, and then return to the spot and retrieve it. He’ll be rich and famous! But when he returns from his time traveling adventure without any treasure, he is inconsolable. To make matters worse, his older brother Rafael doesn’t believe he time traveled at all. Luis decides there’s only one way to convince him. He brings The Book of Memories home to show Rafael, despite Ms. Tremt’s warning that the book is never to leave the library without her permission. Luis ignores her warning—after all, it’s just a book. What could possibly go wrong? Turns out—a lot. When Luis wakes up to find a Viking, Charlie Chaplin, and King Tut wandering around his house, he realizes Ms. Tremt’s warning was no joke. The good news is now Rafael believes him. The bad news is that it’s not going to be easy to get these historical figures back to their proper time periods, especially because none of them want to go home! Can Luis find a way to put everything—and everyone—in the right place before time runs out?

This is true story of the second raid on Schweinfurt, Germany by the Eighth Air Force 1st and 3rd Bombardment Divisions on 14 October 1943. On this day, the Eighth Air Force lost air superiority to the German Luftwaffe in a continuous air battle that lasted over three hours. Many refer to it as the greatest one-day air battle of World War II. Wrong Place, Wrong Time is a study of the 1st Bombardment Division and specifically the 305th Bomb Group on that fateful day. Record numbers of German fighters swarmed over the unescorted B-17s and their crews. Compelling new evidence never before published indicates that mistakes and poor leadership by several air commanders within the 1st Division caused unnecessary losses for a number of bombers and their crews. This, together with major new revelations by crew members of the 305th who flew the mission, shed light on why the 1st Division lost 45 out of 60 B-17s that day. Information for this book comes from the National Archives, the US Air Force Historical Research Center, overseas sources, and 53 surviving 305th crew members who flew this mission.\nGeorge C. Kuhl was a pilot in the 305th Bomb Group during World War II. He lives in Augusta, Georgia.

Rejected by his wife Alice, day trader and suburban father Jack Smith jumps at the chance to manage a yuppie condominium in Seattle, light-years from the burbs. A melange of colorful characters welcomes him and fortune smiles with an unanticipated promise of a rebound romance. Suddenly it all comes unraveled with the first in a series of murders, creating fear and suspicion. Bombastic brainstorming sessions, full of innuendo based less on evidence than clashing personalities, follow. Who will be next? Wild speculations become absurd with each new killing. Clearly this close-knit group is in someone's crosshairs. Is the perp mad or cunning? Is there something one or all of them did to set him or her off? Pondering this question Jack is tormented with guilt over the first murder. On the edge of sanity he contemplates flight-or would Alice, grown distant in her new life, take him back? What about the safety of his family if some nut has it in for him? What price must these yuppie homeowners pay before the killer is caught? Or...! Will this one simply go away like some serial killers from the past? Not likely!"

Looking for Law in All the Wrong Places

“Looking for law in all the wrong places,” as the title of this anthology proposes, compels us to also look for law and its traces in the “wrong” times— ...

For many inside and outside the legal academy, the right place to look for law is in constitutions, statutes, and judicial opinions. This book looks for law in the “wrong places”—sites and spaces in which no formal law appears. These may be geographic regions beyond the reach of law, everyday practices ungoverned or ungovernable by law, or works of art that have escaped law’s constraints. Looking for Law in All the Wrong Places brings together essays by leading scholars of anthropology, cultural studies, history, law, literature, political science, race and ethnic studies, religion, and rhetoric, to look at law from the standpoint of the humanities. Beyond showing law to be determined by or determinative of distinct cultural phenomena, the contributors show how law is itself interwoven with language, text, image, and culture. Many essays in this volume look for law precisely in the kinds of “wrong places” where there appears to be no law. They find in these places not only reflections and remains of law, but also rules and practices that seem indistinguishable from law and raise challenging questions about the locations of law and about law’s meaning and function. Other essays do the opposite: rather than looking for law in places where law does not obviously appear, they look in statute books and courtrooms from perspectives that are usually presumed to have nothing to say about law. Looking at law sideways, or upside down, or inside out defamiliarizes law. These essays show what legal understanding can gain when law is denied its ostensibly proper domain.
